FAMILIES FROM THE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL OF SAN ANTONIO CELEBRATE NATIONAL KIDNEY MONTH WITH SUPERHERO PARTY
WHAT: The Texas Kidney Foundation is recognizing National Kidney Month by celebrating some real-life superheroes—the kidney disease patients at the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio! After dialysis treatment, nearly 20 children and their families will make their way to the Children’s Kidney Center for food, prizes, face painting, special guests and superhero fun. Nurses, staff and the Texas Kidney Foundation will be dressed in hero attire, along with special guest the Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Bear. Children will be given superhero masks and also invited to share their kidney disease milestones with the group—their hero stories.
Kidney disease is a chronic illness that does not discriminate—all ages, races and genders are at risk, though it is particularly common among Hispanics & African Americans. The only option for those diagnosed is a kidney transplant. National Kidney Month is in place to spread awareness about the disease and those affected by it. Texas has the second highest prevalence of Chronic Kidney Disease in the nation.
