TKF Health Assessment

Affordable comprehensive blood testing and kidney screening. No insurance required.

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the health and financial well- being of many San Antonio families. With unemployment at an all-time high, a staggering number of individuals are now without health insurance, and at a time when access to affordable medical care is more important than ever.

3-in-10 Texans do not have health insurance, a nearly 14% jump since the pandemic began.

In response, the Texas Kidney Foundation, in collaboration with Texas-based Clinical Pathology Laboratories (CPL), a Sonic Healthcare USA Clinical Laboratory, is launching a pilot program in San Antonio to provide residents with a low-cost alternative to a general physical exam and blood panel. This will offer families a nearly 50 percent decrease in out-of-pocket costs for comparable care, with no insurance needed.

The new healthcare program, the TKF Health Assessment, offers a comprehensive health screening that includes
a full general blood panel, a kidney disease screening panel and also a telehealth or in-person checkup
with a Texas Kidney Foundation medical professional all for only $60. In comparison, a similar lab work
and check-up bundle could cost patients upwards of $250.

The TKF Health Assessment checks for 28 different biomarkers, including the five that are measured through the
free kidney screenings provided by the Texas Kidney Foundation. The new data points will include a
renal panel, triglycerides and a standard general panel.

The program is currently available just in San Antonio and to those of all ages, but the Texas Kidney Foundation has plans to expand the initiative statewide by summer of this year.
