Tiffany Jones-Smith has served as President & CEO of the Texas Kidney Foundation (TKF) since 2017, where she has transformed the organization into a prevention-first leader in kidney health and chronic disease management. She also serves as Chair of the Texas Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force, appointed by Governor Greg Abbott, and as an Ad Hoc Member of the NIH National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) Advisory Council.
Under her leadership, TKF has dramatically expanded its reach—hosting over 625 screening events in more than 70 Texas counties, and reaching individuals from over 150 counties statewide. Screenings increased from 6,909 between 2010–2016 to 13,758 between 2017–2023, with an additional 6,362 Texans screened from 2021–2024 alone. These results reflect Tiffany’s commitment to upstream prevention and her vision of making early detection accessible to every community.
Her leadership is deeply personal. Having lost 15 family members to kidney disease and as a carrier of the APOL1 genetic variant, Tiffany brings lived experience to her advocacy. She has built TKF into a nationally recognized organization through innovative programs such as Neighbors Helping Neighbors Community Health Fairs, R.E.A.C.H., H.O.P.E., the Community Health Worker Program, and the TKF Mobile App. Together, these initiatives have empowered thousands of Texans with the knowledge, tools, and pathways to protect their health.
Beyond Texas, Tiffany’s impact extends to national policy and research. She played a key role in removing race-based corrections from eGFR testing, contributed to the APOL1 Delphi Consensus, and supported federal advocacy victories such as the Immuno Bill. Through her coalition work and national platforms, she continues to amplify the voices of patients while shaping prevention-first solutions that improve outcomes, reduce costs, and build healthier communities.
